Banh Mi & The New Editor
Shipping code from Vietnam and rethinking the business model.
Happy late new year 2026,
I just got back from 3 weeks in Vietnam. Managing work with two kids on holiday was chaos, but Da Lat was a revelation. I’m already dreaming of retiring there.
But despite the holidays, I managed to ship one major feature: The New Editor.
Built on DOM HTML (no Canvas) for speed and makes TDD easier.
Try here
1. The Tech Update
I stripped the app down.
Simplified UX: Everything now happens in just 2 screens.
Code Deletion: I removed a massive chunk of legacy code.
Offline First: user can still Save Page As and input / generate their keys
2. The Potential Pivot
I’m thinking of changing how I sell this.
Problem: Handling shipping/logistics for envelopes is time-consuming.
Solution: Focus on the Editor as the paid product.
The Offer: Paid subscribers get the physical envelopes sent to them for free.
3. “Dog-fooding” the Product
We used the new setup to gift wallets to our kids’ teachers. We upgraded the materials to make them feel like durable collectibles:
Card stock paper
Dragon Shield inner sleeves
Precision trimmed
It makes a huge difference in how the gift is perceived.
Back to ₿uilding!
